ACHIEVEMENTS
In the AIESEC International Secretariat Mr. Maerki was responsible for the exchange
development and in charge of negotiations with the MIT team concerning the first electronic
exchange program’s development.
Mr. Maerki chaired the
Presidents’ Meetings in Basel (1971) and in Barcelona (1973) as well as the Congresses in Aarhus
and in Bordeaux. (1974)
As a Branch Manager and later as
Country General manager of IBM in Switzerland, Mr. Maerki, supported Career Fair events at several
universities.
Serving as the General Manager
of IBM Global Services EMEA, Mr. Maerki built a people-oriented IT services business which today is
the largest in Europe. Between 1996 and 2001, Mr. Maerki doubled revenue to reach the level of $12
Billion.
Mr. Maerki is IBM’s Executive
Sponsor of an initiative called Career Space that is fostering synchronization of information
technology curricula among the IT companies operating in Europe and in the education
standards.
Mr. Maerki is a member of the
World Wide Management Committee of IBM Corporation since 1997.
Following this success, Mr.
Maerki was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of IBM in Europe, the Middle East and Africa,
thereby co-leading a 28 billion dollar business with more than 95.000 employees in 124
countries.
Mr. Maerki also serves on the
Boards of ABB Ltd, Mikron and Mettler-Toledo.
Mr. Maerki is a member of the
Corporate Social Responsibility Advisory Board that represents around 50 large European
corporations and national CSR organisations.
