"A founder of AIESEC in Turkey, Togay Bayatli is a unique role model for members of AIESEC in Turkey through the initiatives he has taken to ‘cultivate’ our organization. We are honored to see this unique ‘leader’ enter the Alumni Hall of Fame and reafirm the significance of the work he has contributed."
- Candost BAYRAKTAR, President, AIESEC in Turkey
Turkey, 2007 - Transforming passion and belief into real results is something that has marked Togay’s involvement in AIESEC and beyond. As one of the first members of AIESEC in Turkey, Togay formed part of the member committee at a time when the activities of AIESEC in Turkey were focused on Istanbul. One of his great contributions was the establishment of the local committee in Ankara to enable more young people to live AIESEC experiences.
His passion and belief also allowed Togay to pull AIESEC in Turkey through the challenging times of the military coup in Turkey. The government restricted the movement of persons across the borders, but Togay managed to convince the government to give permission to 12 AIESEC members to participate in a study tour abroad. In his life as AIESEC alumnus, Togay transformed another passion of his into results: he has been a sports journalist since 1963, and sees it as his role to drive awareness about sport and other societal matters through his writing. Defending his principles and values to his audiences, he was also one of the founders of the Turkish Sport Press Association, over which he now presides as honorary president. Togay is currently part of the Superior Board of Advisors of AIESEC in Turkey, has supported the celebrations of AIESEC in Turkey’s 50th anniversary, and used his contacts to raise financial support for the International Congress 2007 as well as ensuring a spectacular venue for the same.
